Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and Vanessa Robine ("we", "us") for the use of the Compass app. By using Compass you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy.
What Compass is
Compass is a tool that lets a family agree on behaviors, points and goals, and track them together. It is a parenting aid. It is not medical, psychological, educational or legal advice, and it is not a substitute for a professional's judgment about a child. How you use the points, rewards and consequences in your family is your decision and your responsibility.
Who can use it
You must be an adult to create an account. Children use Compass only in kid mode, through a family code provided by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their use. By adding a child, you confirm you are their parent or legal guardian, or acting with that person's permission.
Your account
Keep your password and your family codes private. Anyone with a family code can join your family, so treat codes the way you would a house key, and generate a new one if you are unsure who has it. You are responsible for activity under your account.
Subscriptions
- Compass is offered as an auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple, with a free trial for new subscribers.
- After the free trial, your Apple ID is charged the price shown at purchase, and the subscription renews at the same price and period until you cancel.
- Cancel at any time in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period. Cancelling during the free trial means you are not charged.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies, not by us.
- One subscription covers a family: the Family Head subscribes, and Family Members and children use Compass under it.
- If a subscription ends, your family's data stays and can be viewed, but logging and approving pause until you subscribe again.
Your content
The names, behaviors, points and goals you enter are yours. You give us permission to store and display them so that Compass works for your family, and nothing more. You can edit or delete them at any time.
Acceptable use
Don't use Compass to harass, endanger or demean anyone, to track a person without the authority to do so, or to break the law. Don't try to access another family's data or interfere with the service. We may suspend accounts that do.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Compass running, but we can't promise it will be available at all times or free of errors. We may change or discontinue features, and we will give reasonable notice for changes that materially affect you.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Compass is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of Compass. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
Apple
Compass is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Compass. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your download; where it conflicts with these terms, these terms govern our relationship with you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
